WKU Child Protection

All club instructors within the WKU are encouraged to attend regional Child Protection Courses, many of these are set up by local authorities, though there are also some very good courses run by sporting bodies.

At our last course we were introduced to a new system that we hope to have up and running later this year. The Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) and the Independent Safeguarding Authority (ISA) have merged into the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) – click here to link to their website. CRB checks are now called DBS checks. All instructors within the WKU must be DBS checked, this is in our constitution.

Every club in the WKU should have it’s own Child Protection Officer (CPO), it is also advisable to have a male and female representative who are not related. The CPO does not have to be a training student but should be someone who is readily available if required.
